The Music Of Movers: How They Do It All

Moving With Fine Art? 3 Tips to Get it to Your New Home Safely

Moving can be difficult, especially when you have valuable things, such as fine art. The last thing you want to  happen is for any of your art to get damaged. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to prevent this from happening, including the three tips below.

Pack Framed Fine Art

Because your fine art is most likely in heavy frames, you need to purchase heavy duty boxes that are made to hold picture frames. You will hear these referred to as picture boxes. You can also use these boxes to pack other things like mirrors and canvases. Put corner protectors on the picture frames before you wrap them in bubble wrap. Wrap the fine art with two layers of foam or bubble wrap. Place the fine art into the box, making sure there is no room for it to move around. If there is, add packing materials to the box to stabilize it and keep it from moving. Because your fine art is special to you, purchase a picture box that is much larger than the fine art. This will allow you to put an extra layer of bubble wrap around the art. Tape the boxes two times to ensure the boxes stay closed. Use heavy duty packing tape so the tape will not come loose during transfer, especially if the box gets wet.

Check Temperature and Humidity Levels

Extremely hot or cold temperatures, as well as high humidity, may cause problems with fine art. For this reason, hire a moving company that has a moving truck that has temperature and humidity control. If you hire a moving company that is experienced in fine art moving, they will know what the temperature and humidity should be. If they do not, contact an art dealer in your town or online and ask them for guidance. They can give you a lot of information about this to help you.

Talk to the Moving Company

You should let the moving company know that you have fine art. That way, they will be ready to handle this type of situation. The moving company can also provide you with the proper boxes that you need, as well as packaging materials and tape. The moving company may offer to pack the fine art for you if you do not think you can do it correctly.

Also ask the moving company about putting insurance on the fine art in case something does happen and it is damaged. The moving company you hire can give you much more information about moving your fine art.
