The Music Of Movers: How They Do It All

Here Are The Items You Should Consider Keeping In Self-Storage Units

There are some items you might want to bring to a self-storage unit when you need to free up space. Here are some of those items and why many people take them to self-storage facilities.

Furniture

Pieces of furniture are some of the most kept things in self-storage. This is mostly because most furniture items are delicate but bulky, which leaves limited places in which they can be kept safe. For example, you may need storage space for your furniture if you are staging your home for a sale, if you are renting out your home for a short time, or if you are renovating the home.

Appliances

Major home appliances also fall into the category of things people like to keep in storage units. Things like washers, dryers, cooking ranges, and refrigerators are common candidates in self-storage. Maybe your appliance is broken down but you aren't ready to throw it out yet or you have temporarily moved into a furnished apartment with the same appliances you already have.

Documents

There are three main reasons why people keep documents in self-storage:

  • Safeguarding of important documents, such as those related to home-based businesses
  • Keeping sensitive documents away from the prying eyes of visitors
  • Keeping documents safe if there is no space at home

In most cases, you will just need a mini storage unit for your documents.

Collections

If you are a collector, then you should find a safe place for your collections so that they don't get in the way of your household or your family doesn't end up damaging them. This is particularly true if you have been collecting the items for a long time and you have gathered a sizable amount. Take your wine collection, rare book collection, or guitar collection to a self-storage facility where it will be safe.

Recreational Vehicles

Lastly, recreational vehicles are also routinely kept in self-storage facilities. This isn't surprising given that recreational vehicles are bulky and take up considerable room. You don't want your RV to occupy your whole yard space (assuming you have a small yard). Besides, there are seasons of the year where RVs are largely dormant, and keeping your RV in self-storage will help protect its sensitive parts during this period.

The above are just five examples of items people like to keep in self-storage, but you are free to store anything as long as you don't contravene the terms and conditions of your chosen facility.
